HEARNE, Texas - Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Kinnikinic Bundage. The Hearne High School Senior has a 3.6 GPA, and is currently ranked third in her class.

Selena Kaminski- Teacher
“I think that winning Classroom Champion for Kinnikinic and then also the other students in the school is going to show them an example that. With hard work and perseverance that you can achieve these great things. That you can get recognition for being positive. Because a lot of times people that do negative things their the ones that get the recognition. And so, sometimes the students that are doing good things; they kind of get swept under the rug.”

Kinnikinic is a member of the Hearne Lady Eagle volleyball, powerlifting, and track teams. In track, Kinnikinic was a State Qualifier and a Regional Qualifier in the 4X100. And in powerlifting, she was also a Regional Qualifier for her efforts. Outside of sports, Kinnikinic is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), and in her spare time she likes listening to music.

Destiney Jones-Smith - Coach
“This is my first year here at Hearne High School. And Kinnikinic was one of the first kids that I met over the summer. She was here lifting weights. She was definitely a kid that I hoped was a runner, and she was. She's definitely been a great kid to work with; she's definitely been a leader for the program. And she's definitely helped me, as far as being new to the school and new to the track program here. She's definitely stepped up and helped me out.”

Kinnikinic Bundage - Student
“To be a state qualifying athlete you to make sure you're dedicated at what you do. You can't come and half do anything, because for one, you're not just counting on yourself. But you're counting on the rest of your team as well, and they're also counting on you as well. You wouldn't want nobody to leave you hanging if it was you in their shoes. So you have to fulfill you're part and their part too.”

After High School, Kinnikinic will attend Texas Southern University, and will major in Music Education.

Congratulations to Kinnikinic Bundage of Hearne High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
