News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Justin Pollock. The Rudder High School Senior has a 4.7 GPA, and is currently ranked second in his class.
“In the classroom Justin leads by example. He gets to work, he stays motivated, he stays focused...I've seen him work with other students to make sure that they understand the material. He's not worried about his own success, but that other people in the classroom can be successful too. I imagine that's the same way he is with gymnastics. I know that he works with some of the younger competitors, training them and working with them and I see his ability to work other students in my class, I can only imagine he's great with the kids too.” Jonathan Meadows, Teacher.
Justin is the Team Captain for the Rudder Rangers Gymnastics team this season. In the gym, Justin was a member of the 2016 and 2017 Boys Gymnastics State Championship teams. Outside of sports, Justin is involved in the National Honor Society, United Way, and Skills USA, and in the classroom, Justin has received outstanding achievement in AP Physics, AP European History, and AP Human Geography.
“You know Justin has a lot of pride in himself, but also in his team. And you know Rudder's had a lot of years where they were state champions and so he likes to carry that. Not as a flag of honor but as a way of saying you know hey, “If I'm going to be on this team and this team has been known to win. I'm going to work to represent this team well!” And he's definitely has done that on many occasions.” Omar Loya, Coach.
“I think I'm more of an example leader. I don't usually yell or have to get on people as much. But I always set an example for our gym team. And whatever I do, some people like to follow and they like look up to me. And that's good because they'll learn this guy’s set to a higher standard, so I should be set to a high standard as well.” says Pollock.
After High School, Justin wants to attend Texas A&M University and major in either Statistics or Business. And Justin also wants to continue his gymnastics career in college as well.
Congratulations to Justin Pollock of Rudder High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
