Classroom Champion Alexa Olivarez

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Alexa Olivarez. The Caldwell High School Senior has a 4.3 GPA, and is currently ranked in the top 5 percent of her class.

“I see lots of determination in Alexa. When I say determination, determination to get the very best out of herself and everything that she does. You know sometimes as you get older and you get Seniors. You see Senior-itis. Alexa has not shown me one bit of that. She's very determined to finish her school year just the way she started it, and she does the same thing in her sports. If things aren't going well she's going to push herself.” Wendy Weiss, Teacher.

Alexa plays basketball and golf for the Lady Hornets. In Basketball, she has been a Honorable Mention All-District and Academic All-District selection. Alexa, was also named Co-MVP by her teammates the past two seasons for her play on the court. Outside of sports, Alexa is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Republicans, and Competitive Dance. When Alexa isn't playing sports or at school, you can find her Kice's Elite Dance Center, dancing!

“Alexa is one of these student athletes that because she puts so much pressure on herself. You know failure is just not an option. And so, she's going to go out and she's going to put forth tremendous effort. She's going to work like heck to prepare. She knows that both in the classroom and on the course; what she puts into it is what she gets out of it.” John Carrigen, Coach.

“I feel like I'm more of a person who leads by example. I am not the most vocal person, I like to stay quiet a lot of the times. So, whenever I do something and I know that other people are watching I'll make sure I'm doing the right thing at the right time. So I try to do my best always and I think that's really what pushes me. Because I know there's a lot of times when people see what you do. They don't always hear what you do, and so I really want to make sure that I am presenting myself the best I can.” says Olivarez.

After High School, Alexa is currently undecided on which college or university she will attend but, wherever she chooses to go, she will major in Biology.

Congratulations to Alexa Olivarez of Caldwell High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
