Classroom Champion-Casey Shutt

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Casey Shutt. The Rudder High School Senior has a 4.1 GPA, and is currently ranked in the Top 5 percent of his class.

“Casey finds a way to both work hard and focus and try, and also have fun with it. Because a lot of kids you get either one or the other. There either goofing off or just so focused that they have kind of lost the joy of it. But Casey manages to do both, which is impressive in a high school student.” Rebekah Morris, Teacher.

Casey is the Team Captain for the Rudder Rangers football at wrestling teams this season and baseball. On the gridiron, Casey has been a First Team All-District selection as a Linebacker as well as his Team's Defensive Player of the Year. And in wrestling, Casey made it to Regionals the past two seasons. Outside of sports, Casey is involved in FCA, Brazos Fellowship, and UIL. And in the classroom, Casey has received the AP English 3 Student of the Year Award.

“Mostly by example. But he will get vocal when he feels like he needs to. Luckily he's got the respect of his teammates, and they respond in a positive manner. He lead this team last year as a junior, so it's a natural kind of position for him be in. And he takes that role on seriously, and the kids respond well to him.” Greg Morgan, Coach.

“Well everybody tells me I lead by example. I mean I'll get on to people if there messing up or I like congratulate people. But I'm not one to tell people what to do...And they've come to respect me because of that. And me being so young and being on varsity. And so it was kind of easy, because I was friends with all of them pretty much. And I just feel like they accepted me more because of my previous experience on varsity.” says Casey.

After High School, Casey plans on attending college and wants to major in either Kinesiology or Engineering and Casey also wants to continue his football career in college as well.

Congratulations to Casey Shutt of Rudder High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
