News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Emma Pickering. The Normangee High School Senior has a 4.2 GPA, and is currently ranked number one in her class.
“Emma definitely leads by example. You see that in her teams are successful. Everything she does she raises the level of the people around her. The softball team was really successful; went to the state round. Then you have UIL went to the state level, and then in the community...Just stuff she does around church...She raises the level of everybody around her.” Cody Gore, Teacher.
Emma is an Outfielder on the Lady Panther Softball Team. Last season her and her team made it to state, and finished as State Runner-Ups. Emma has been an Academic All-District selection in Softball as well. Outside of sports, Emma is involved in Academic UIL, FFA, 4-H, and she is the Senior Class President. In FFA and UIL (Social Studies), Emma has been a State Qualifier and in her spare time, Emma enjoys playing softball, and serving her school and her community.
“She handles it pretty well. You know sometimes she's going to and fro so much that you worry about her about her but she's highly competitive. She knows how to budget her time. She knows how to study when she's supposed to study; she knows how to play when she's supposed to play and you know, she's very, very, very good at it.” Charles Hudgeons, Coach.
“Winning Classroom Champion was definitely surprising, because it wasn't just me who got me here. I've also had a team of people backing me. Whether it was my parents, my teachers, my coaches, and my fellow peers and classmates who always push me to be a better person, be a better student, a better athlete, and a better team member, and so, I definitely think that this isn't just an individual award, but more like a team award for Normangee High School.” says Pickering.
After High School, Emma plans on attending the University of Texas in Austin, and she will major in Government and hopes to one day become a lawyer.
Congratulations to Emma Pickering of Normangee High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
