Classroom Champion-Kaylee Hawes

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Kaylee Hawes. The Mumford High School Senior has a 4.0 GPA, and is currently ranked fourth in her class.

“Kaylee is an extremely hard worker. She is always on top of everything she needs to get done. She's always the first to volunteer for anything that I need her to do. She's always helpful to other students as well. I think she’s motivated by being successful and doing her absolute best. She never wants to be lazy or get behind in anything that she knows that she is not reaching her full potential at.” Katie Hudson, Teacher.

Kaylee is the Cheer Captain of the Lady Mustang Cheerleading squad. She's also a member of the softball, volleyball and basketball teams as well. Outside of sports, Kaylee is involved in the National Honor Society, 4-H, and FFA, and the Future Chamber of Commerce, and for the past three years, Kaylee has been named the FFA Sweetheart. In her spare time, she volunteers at Head Start, the Lil Dribblers, and at volleyball and cheer camps.

“I think what separates her is just her mental toughness....You know she had a ACL injury last year during basketball season. She worked really hard to get back; and she went through things that a lot people don't want to put their body through. In that way she kind of leads by example and she shows the other students what success should look like.” Josh Smith, Coach.

“Being a student athlete comes with a lot of pressure, because you're in practice late, you're on the road late from games and so, you don't really get that extra classroom time that non-student athletes would get. So I guess the way I get through that, you know handling the pressure, would be because I have really high goals and standards I've set for myself. So I know I have to give the extra time and work extra hard in the classroom.” says Kaylee Hawes.

After High School, Kaylee plans on attending the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and she will major in Nursing.

Congratulations to Kaylee Hawes of Mumford High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
