It’s time now to crown another Classroom Champion and this week we congratulate Lacy Matocha of St. Joseph Catholic School.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Lacy Matocha. The St. Joseph Catholic School has a 4.4 GPA, and is currently ranked number one in her class.
“I think one very admirable quality of Lacy is her desire for excellence. She seeks to achieve excellence in all that she does. Whether it's in the classroom; she carries an “A” plus average. Also, on the field in track, she's always seeking to improve her time, and trying her best to improve.” says Janine Barry, Science Teacher
Lacy participates in Cross Country, Track, and Basketball for the Lady Eagles. In Cross Country, Lacy was a First Team Academic All-State selection and, last season, she placed second at the TAPPS 2a State Cross Country meet. And in basketball, Lacy helped her team win a District Title and helped them become State Semi-Finalists as well. Outside of sports, Lacy is the Vice President of the Student Council, a member of NHS (National Honor Society), CREW (Christians Ready to Evangelize the World), and Eagles for Life. In the classroom, Lacy has received the AP award in Calculus and Physics.
“Lacy definitely leads by example with her work ethic in the weight room; outside running. But she's also very positive around the team and tries to kind of you know, fill the team with positive energy. Especially on a day where they've had a tough workout...Or you know, I'm asking a lot of them. And I do think the rest of them feed off of that. When she's being real positive and upbeat.” says Seth Collins, Coach
“It's definitely not the easiest balancing AP Dual Credits; Honors classes...and also busy athletic schedule. Especially since I go from Cross Country, to Basketball, to Track with like no breaks. One thing that keeps me going is just enjoying it. Remembering why I'm doing all those things.”, Lacy Matocha
After High School, Lacy wants to attend Texas A&M University and major in Nursing. And hopes to one day become a Nurse Practitioner!
Congratulations to Lacy Matocha of St. Joseph Catholic School, this week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
