Classroom Champions-Reyna Gonzalez

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Reyna Gonzalez. The Rockdale High School Senior has a 4.5 GPA, and is currently ranked number one in her class.

“I think Reyna handles the pressure of being a student athlete very well. I know last year she won state doubles for tennis. So she was able to achieve on the field and she still kept up all of her academics. She still had you know perfect grades all throughout my class; you know she would still be in tutorials. She uses a lot of her time to be the best at multiple areas.”-Robert Lampert, Teacher.

Reyna is a four-year letter winner in Volleyball and Tennis for the Rockdale Lady Tigers. For her efforts in volleyball, Reyna was a 1st Team Academic All-State selection and Defensive Player of the Year. Last season in tennis, Reyna won the class 3-A Mixed Doubles State Championship. Outside of sports, Reyna is a member of the National Honor Society, and the Student Council. Reyna loves giving back to her community. She started the Rockdale Summer Tennis Camp and she also helps with teaching at her church.

“Reyna is a quiet leader. She's not flashy, she's not showy, she does everything by example. She does volleyball, she does tennis, and she just is that person who when she steps on the floor she’s going to try and that's the girl you want the girls to look up to, because she's not ever going to do less than what she expects of herself and what she expects of herself is usually more than what anybody could ever expect of her.”-Jennifer Keen, Coach.

“Something that drives me is the end result. Like for school, I have the possibility of being Valedictorian and I know that there is like a huge scholarship that comes with that. So that drives me. For tennis, I know that going to state last year and winning, it was like a huge accomplishment feeling and so that definitely drives me this year to work hard on the court and do the best that I can.”, says Gonzalez.

After high school, Reyna wants to attend Texas A&M University, and she will major in Kinesiology.

Congratulations to Reyna Gonzalez of Rockdale High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
