Classroom Champions-Will Harris

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Will Harris. The A&M Consolidated High School Senior has a 4.4 GPA, and is currently ranked in the top 5 percent of his class.

“I think they recognize him as a leader. I think they see Will as somebody who does the right thing consistency. And I think they respect him for that. One thing that impresses me about Will is that he's obviously a full time athlete, but he's also taking college credit classes...His senior year, and he didn't have to do that. But I think that speaks to his motivation to get ahead when he goes off to college as well.” says Michael Williams, teacher.

Will is a member of the football, powerlifting and track teams at A&M Consolidated. In football, Will is the Team Captain and last season, he was an Academic All-District Selection. In track, Will is currently one of the school record holders in the 800m and 1600m relay teams. Outside of sports, Will is involved with the National Honor Society, Texas Boys State, Young Men's Service League, and the Humanitarian Club. And in his spare time, Will enjoys playing video games and hanging out with friends.

“It's not pressure to him; it makes him excited because he loves playing the game and he’s out there always pushing himself. And you know, I think that's what makes him standout. He's one of those young men that enjoy doing everything. And it's not only what he does on the field, what he does in the classroom. It's one of those things that he knows that he's a fighter and then there's going to be adversity in life. But he's got to just bow his neck and keep fighting, and that's one thing that he does. In the classroom, on the field, and in the weight room.”says Lee Fedora, Coach.

“I handle the pressure of being a student athlete by getting all my work done as quickly as I can. And to the best of my abilities and not procrastinate. I think being a student athlete has helped my time management skills. As I have practice most days and right afterwards I have to do homework. So I think that will carry over well in college, and I' ll be able to get my things done efficiently.” says Will Harris.

After High School, Will plans on attending Texas A&M University and majoring in Business.

Congratulations to Will Harris of A&M Consolidated High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
