It has been 20 years since the Aggie football team has won a conference championship and nearly 8 decades since a national championship was won by the program.

A&M Athletic Director Scott Woodward is counting on his old friend to be able to end both those droughts during Fisher's 75 million dollar contract.

Jimbo is the first head football coach to be hired at A&M with a national championship on his resume.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding Fisher's debut, similar to 15 years ago when Texas A&M enticed Dennis Franchione to leave Alabama to coach in Aggieland.

Coach Fran is now retired and he and his wife Kim enjoy spending time with their grand kids, giving tours around their Horseshoe Bay home, walking Divot, and playing golf in days that end in 'Y'.

He says he still keeps up with his old teams and is confident that Coach Fisher can win the 12th Man the National Championship they are so hungry for.

"He knows the steps along the way and I don't think there is any doubt that he is as qualified to do it as anybody that they could have hired," said Franchione.

"There is no doubt that in his tenure it could happen and I know the Aggies believe in him and believe it can happen and they should and Jimbo should too," added Coach Fran.

Jimbo Fisher will make his Texas A&M debut on Thursday August 30 against Northwestern State. The game will kick off at 7:30pm and be broadcast on the SEC Network.

KBTX Sports will have much more from Coach Fran as well as former A&M Head Coach Jackie Sherrill, who was hired away from Pittsburgh to coach the Aggies back in 1982 becoming the first college coach to earn one million dollars per year, during 'Aggie Game Day' airing Thursday, August 30 from 6-7pm on KBTX.
