BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- College Station (8-1, 5-1) will close out the regular season Friday night on the road as they take on Magnolia West (7-2, 5-1).
While Lufkin has already wrapped up the top seed in the district and clinched a least a share of the 8-5A Division I Championship, the 2nd seed is up for grabs between the Cougars and Mustangs.
A victory means hosting a first round playoff game and not having to travel to the metroplex for it. Cougar Head Coach Steve Huff knows his Cougars will have to play well against Magnolia West.
"I think the number one thing is you have to slow the quarterback down. He's one of the leading rushers in the district and is also the leading passer in the district. They throw the ball quite a bit. He has four receivers that are among the top 10 receivers in district and all have multiple catches in the twenties and thirties and one of them around 40 catches. When you look at that they spread the ball around. He does a great job of that and extends plays. Defensively they chase the ball well. They run around a lot. Do a lot of blitzing and stuff so we've got to find a way to slow that down also," said Huff.
The showdown for 2nd place in 8-5A Division I will kickoff Friday at 7:30 at Mustang Stadium in Magnolia.
