Consol shuts out Bryan 20-0 in Crosstown Showdown

By  |

The Tiger defense dominated as A&M Consolidated beat Bryan 20-0 to claim victory in the Crosstown Showdown for the third straight season.

Consol grabbed a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a three-yard Steven Ray touchdown run after a fumbled snap on an attempted punt by the Vikings.

The Tigers added another touchdown just before the half on a 25-yard Caden Fedora touchdown pass to Devin Price.

Rain came in the second half, and so did lightning as the teams had to wait through a 45-minute delay.

When they returned to action the Vikings could not hold onto the ball and fumbled away any chance at a comeback.

Consol added a 30-yard Fedora to Julius Howard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

A&M Consolidated head coach Lee Fedora said, "I was impressed with our defense, our defense played great. Wasn't very impressed with our offense. We didn't execute because we got a lot of turnovers where we gotta put points on the board. We score a touchdown, get a holding penalty and get a holding penalty on that. Those are things we've got to get fixed but I thought our kids, having this rivalry game, we knew it was going to be a close game fighting all the way through it and having that lightning delay and having to go in there and sit but they came out and still played hard."

Bryan head coach Ross Rogers said, "Once again our defense played as well as you could ask. They just kept playing and they hit some balls down the middle. But offensively we shot ourselves in the foot I don't know if we have enough bullets anymore. We cannot make plays and somebody's got to step up."

Both the Vikings and Tigers are off next Friday night.

Consol now leads the Crosstown Showdown series 21-10.

The Tigers shutout was the first in the series since the Vikings shut out Consol 16-0 in 1993.
