NEW ORLEANS – The preseason watch list for the 2019 Bowerman includes a pair of Aggies in senior Jazmine Fray and sophomore Sammy Watson. The A&M pair are listed among a group of 10 female athletes who were selected for the initial watch list this track and field season.
Fray is the indoor collegiate record holder in the 800 meters, having run 2:00.69 during the 2017 season. In addition, she was a member of a collegiate record Texas A&M set in the sprint medley relay in 2017. Fray, who holds the outdoor school record in the 800, also had a role in school record efforts in 2018 for the 4x800 and distance medley relays, which included two records indoors and one outdoors.
Watson enters her second season with the Aggies as the defending NCAA Outdoor champion in the 800. Watson placed third at the NCAA Indoor meet and swept the SEC titles with Fray runner-up. Her freshman season also included being part of five school records.
Other SEC schools represented on the Bowerman preseason watch list include Arkansas with Lexi Jacobus and Georgia with Lynna Irby. The remainder of the watch list includes Olivia Gruber (Washington), Jessica Hull (Oregon), Dani Jones (Colorado), Ednah Kurgat (New Mexico), Mackenzie Little (Stanford) and Allie Ostrander (Boise State).
Texas A&M will host the Ted Nelson Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. The Aggies will compete on Saturday among a field of teams that includes Abilene Christian, Baylor, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas Arlington, Texas State and UTSA.
Friday’s meet will include the following teams: Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Mexico JC, Northwestern Louisiana, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, UT Rio Grande Valley, Tillotson, and Western Texas College.
