COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M freshman forward Ásdís Halldórsdóttir was named a TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week Honorable Mention following the Aggies’ wins against Colorado College (2-1) and William & Mary (2-0).
Halldórsdóttir, a rookie from Iceland, logged a goal and an assist as the Aggies went 2-0 on the weekend.
In Friday’s win versus Colorado College, Halldórsdóttir scored the game-tying goal in the 60th minute. Surrounded by five Tigers, she ripped a shot from 20 yards out for the equalizer. In the 84th minute of Sunday’s match against William & Mary, Halldórsdóttir assisted on an insurance goal by Ally Watt with her perfectly weighted ball that traveled 20 yards through the William & Mary defense to Watt making a run into the top of the penalty box.
On the season, Halldórsdóttir has seven points on two goals and three assists. She has played in all eight games, including six starts.
The Reykjavik native has participated in international competitions for the Iceland women’s national teams since 2016. Halldórsdóttir’s international tournament experience includes the UEFA U19 Championship in 2017 and ’18 and the UEFA U17 Championship in 2016. She has 13 caps for Icelandic squads, tallying three goals, all at the 2017 UEFA U19 Championship.
Halldórsdóttir is one of 11 players who have logged goals in the first eight games for the high-octane A&M offense. With an 8-0-0 record, the Maroon & White are off to their best start since 1997.
The Aggies have had a player recognized on each of the four TDS National Teams of the Week with Ally Watt getting tabbed an honorable mention after the first two weekends of the season and Grace Piper earning a spot last week.
Texas A&M returns to action Friday when they open SEC play against LSU in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Ellis Field on SEC Network+.
