Hometown Heroes: Bryan

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The Bryan Vikings make the move to 6A football in 2018, as they are the northern-most outpost in District 14.

The Vikings have three Thursday night road trips to Cypress on the schedule, plus a Friday night game at Langham Creek.

Despite the jump Bryan should be in pretty good shape with eight starters coming back on offense and six more returning on defense.

Kerry Brooks returns under center after a solid sophomore campaign.

He will be able to lean on Jalen Davis and Joseph Jones in the backfield and receiver Matt Moreno. Tyler Allen, Blaine Bright, and Troy Chumchal will pave the way up front as returning linemen.

Defensively Bryan will look to senior linebacker and leading returning tackler David Parks for leadership. He and De’Terious Bryant are back in the middle, while Johnathan Sparkman and Xavier Johnson will be the leaders in the secondary.

Head coach Ross Rogers thinks things are looking up for the Vikings this season. “We will be stronger this year because we played a lot of underclassmen last season due to injuries.” The road to the playoffs will be tougher in Class 6A, but expect the Vikings to be in the mix for the postseason as the year winds down.
