BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- Buffalo has increased its win total from the previous season in each year of the Gary Grubbs era.
With a combined 17 returning starters this season, the Bison have a good chance of continuing that trend in 2017. The Bison’s strength this season will be on offense. Buffalo returns nine starters, including all state tailback Hector Dominguez, who rushed for an impressive 1,424 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2017. At quarterback, Colten Green returns for a second year under center. The junior and District 12-3A offensive Newcomer of the Year accounted for 26 touchdowns while throwing for 1,714 yards and rushing for 684.
Defensively, Buffalo’s strength will be in the trenches. Senior defensive tackle Benito Rivas and junior defensive end Chase Thompson, last year’s district defensive newcomer of the year, will lead the charge. All-state defensive back Chase Rath will also return.
While the talent is there for Buffalo, so is the competition. Seven of the Bison’s 10 regular season opponents made the playoffs last season.
