NAVASOTA, Texas -- It took a specially called board meeting by the Navasota Independent School District Board of Trustees to unanimously approve a one year contract extension for current Athletic Director & Head Football Coach Lee Fedora.
Two weeks earlier this same board couldn't come up with a 'second' on a motion to extend Fedora's contract.
"He's a real good man and he's brought a winning tradition here to Navasota," said James Harris a father of a Navasota ISD student. "He's a father figure to most of our kids. It just makes me feel good that Coach Fedora has the supporting cast of the Rattler nation and I'm just so glad that the school board seen that. "
Two weeks ago Fedora was blind sided by the news that his contraction extension was not only voted on, but no one on the board would 'second the motion' to extend his contract.
News of the 'no second' of the coach's current contract spread like wildfire among the 'Rattler Nation' which seemed to force Board of Trustees to readdress the coach's contract.
Fedora has just finished his 11th season in Navasota which includes state championships in 2012 and 2014. During his tenure in Navasota the football program has averaged 11 wins a season.
"I'm very pleased with our community I wouldn't have known that this many people were going to show up in support but that's what I've always said in the 11 years that I have been here, that's what makes this such a great place is this community support," said Fedora.
Fedora's current contract runs through June of 2017. With the one year extension approved Monday night, the only coach to guide Navasota to a pair of state football championships, is guaranteed two more seasons on the sidelines in Navasota.
