Maroons Claim Omaha Cup Championship Series with 5-3 Win

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Maroons captured the 2018 Omaha Cup Championship Series with a 5-3 win in Friday’s rubber match on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The Maroons put up two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game and scored two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead in the 7-inning affair. The Maroons would add an insurance run in the fifth and fight off a late rally by the Pinstripes in the seventh.

Zach DeLoach paced the Maroons offense, going 2-for-2 with two walks, one double, one run and one RBI. Aaron Walters batted 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Logan Foster, Jonathan Ducoff and Hunter Coleman each tallied two hits for the Pinstripes and Reed Spenrath smacked a two-run home run.

Jonathan Childress earned the victory on the mound for the Maroons. He yielded two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings. Kasey Kalich worked 1.1 scoreless relief and Mason Cole pitched the seventh inning to earn the save.

Notable performances for the three-game series included Bryce Blaum batting 5-for-9 with four RBI for the Maroons and Ducoff hitting 5-for-10 for the Pinstripes.


The Aggies open the 2019 season Friday, February 15 with a 6:30 p.m. contest against the Fordham Rams on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

T3 | Ty Coleman was issued a four-pitch base on balls to start the frame and Spenrath followed by belting a two-run home run to right-center. Pinstripes 2, Maroons 0.

B3 | Bryce Blaum stroked a full count offering to leftfield for leadoff single. With one out, DeLoach singled to rightfield to put runners on the corners. Aaron Walters singled to rightfield to knock in Blaum and DeLoach scored on a sacrifice fly by Will Frizzell to tie the game. Maroons 2, Pinstripes, 2.

B4 | Cole Taylor singled up the middle to start the frame and with one out Allonte Wingate followed with a single to rightfield. A wild pitch put both runners in scoring position and Blaum drew a walk to fill the bags with Ags. Mikey Hoehner knocked in Taylor with a sacrifice fly and DeLoach plated Wingate with a double down the leftfield line. Maroons 4, Pinstripes 2.

B5 | With one out, Hunter Townsend doubled down the third baseline and Taylor drew a walk. Townsend came around to score on a throwing error by reliever Brandon Birdsell on a failed pickoff attempt. Maroons 5, Pinstripes 2.

T7 | With two outs, Foster laced a single through the left side of the infield and scored when Braden Shewmake tripled down the rightfield line. Maroons 5, Pinstripes 3.
