Maroons even the Omaha Cup Championship Series with 7-2 win

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Maroons notched a 7-2 victory over the Pinstripes Thursday afternoon on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park to even the best-of-three Omaha Cup Championship Series at 1-1.

Bryce Blaum spearheaded the Maroons attack at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Will Frizzell added a two-run home run.

The Maroons pitchers fanned 11 batters over seven innings while allowing just four hits and one walk. Starter John Doxakis yielded one run on three hits and one walk while striking out five in 4.0 innings. Mason Cole and Kasey Kalich both struck out two of the three batters they faced in their respective innings of relief.

Asa Lacy was solid on the mound for the Pinstripes. He allowed just one unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out eight in 4.0 innings.


The Omaha Cup Championship Series concludes with a 3:30 p.m. game on Friday.

T2 | Hunter Coleman drew a one-out walk and Joseph Menefee singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. Ty Coleman knocked in Hunter Coleman with a bloop single to leftfield. Pinstripes 1, Maroons 0.

B3 | With one out, Allonte Wingate was issued a base on balls. A fielding error and throwing error by the leftfielder on a single by Bryce Blaum allowed Wingate to score an unearned run. Pinstripes 1, Maroons 1.

B5 | Walks continued to haunt the Pinstripes. With one out, Hunter Watson drew a four pitch walk off of reliever Bryce Miller and Allonte Wingate followed with a full-count free pass. Kyle Richardson came on in relief for the Pinstripes and uncorked a wild pitch to put both runners in scoring position. Blaum chopped a single over the left side of the infield, that was playing in on the grass, to knock in both runs. Maroons 3, Pinstripes 1.

T6 | Cameron Blake hit a leadoff double down the rightfield line. With one out, Blake moved to third on a wild pitch and he scored on a groundout to first base by Braden Shewmake. Maroons 3, Pinstripes 2.

B6 | The Maroons blew the game open with a four-run sixth. Aaron Walters started the inning with a gapper to right-center for a single and Frizzell followed with a titanic blast to rightfield for a two-run dinger. Cole Taylor and Hunter Townsend kept the rally going with a single and walk, respectively, and with one out Wingate was hit by a pitch to fill the bags with Ags. Taylor scored on a fielder’s choice by Blaum and Townsend came home on a wild pitch to cap the scoring. Maroons 7, Pinstripes 2.
