COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Softball’s Payton McBride was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Region Second Team, it was announced Thursday.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for the 2019 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
McBride, who was voted into the Utility/Pitcher spot, owns a 9-6 record and 3.59 ERA in 27 appearances in the circle. The Deer Park, Texas, native leads the Aggie offense in batting average (.345), slugging percentage (.504) and RBI (30) and has recorded 11 multi-hit games.
In March, McBride delivered the heroics and drove in the game-winning run to hand then-No.4 Alabama their first loss of the season. The junior propelled the Aggies to a victory in the regular-season finale over then-No.11 Tennessee after belting a two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning.
The Maroon & White begin postseason play at the NCAA Austin Regional against Houston on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at McCombs Field.
