No. 20 women's basketball opens season Friday vs Houston

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The No. 20 Texas A&M’s women’s basketball team opens the 2017-18 regular season on Friday, November 10, with Houston paying a visit to Reed Arena in the first round of the Preseason WNIT.

The Aggies have won three exhibition contests since the end of last season, posting two wins on a foreign trip to Spain, then defeating Oklahoma City 86-35 in an exhibition game on Monday. Texas A&M adds in the No. 8 recruiting class from 2017 to a team that returns three Preseason All-SEC picks, Khaalia Hillsman, Anriel Howard and Danni Williams.

The Aggies, who are 39-4 in home openers and 30-13 in season openers, are playing in the Preseason WNIT for the second time, after going 2-1 to reach the semifinals in 1995.

Houston went 12-19 in the 2016-17 season, and return two double-digit scorers, Jasmyne Harris (11.3 ppg) and Angela Harris (10.0 ppg). Jamila Ganter, who played for Texas A&M from 2003-06 under Gary Blair, returns to Aggieland and Reed Arena as an assistant coach for Houston.

The game is a part of Texas A&M’s Military Appreciation Weekend. Active duty and retired military and first responder personnel can go to to reserve two free tickets to Friday's women's basketball game. Additional tickets are available for $3 (general admission) or $8 (reserved).
