The No. 21 Texas A&M women’s tennis team travels to Athens to take on No. 2 Georgia, Sunday. The Aggies (14-2, 2-1) and Bulldogs (10-3, 0-1) are set to face off at noon (CT) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
“Georgia has a very good team and have obviously had a great start to their season having won the national indoors and being undefeated,” Texas A&M women’s tennis head coach Mark Weaver said. “Make no mistake about it, we will need to come out firing on all cylinders at every position in the lineup tomorrow.”
The Aggies dropped their first conference match of the year at Tennessee on Friday evening. The Lady Vols claimed the doubles point followed by wins on courts three, one and four. Despite the team setback, sophomores Riley McQuaid and Dorthea Faa-Hviding were able to earn straight set victories in Knoxville. McQuaid picked up her 17th win in her last 18 matches while Faa-Hviding won her team-best ninth straight match.
A&M’s Jayci Goldsmith, a freshman from Dripping Springs, Texas, earned the highest ranking for the Aggies in the Feb. 20 edition of the Oracle/ITA Division I National Singles Rankings. The lefthander moved to No. 100 as she stands at 13-1 this spring and 22-3 overall. Goldsmith and sophomore Tatiana Makarova raced up the rankings to No. 31 in the country. The pair are 10-4 in dual matches and lead the team with two ranked wins this year.
A&M has posted an astonishing 73-13 singles record and 27-8 doubles mark in dual matches this spring. Following the trip to Georgia, the Aggies will return to College Station to take on No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 18 Kentucky next weekend.
