No. 8 Texas A&M Closes Regular Season Against Ole Miss

The No. 8 Texas A&M men's tennis team hosts Ole Miss Sunday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at 1 p.m. (CT). The Aggies (19-6, 9-2 SEC) take on the Rebels (16-10, 5-6 SEC) for Senior Day as Texas A&M tennis will honor its lone senior, Kevin Lam, prior to the match.

“Ole Miss is another very good opponent that we will have to play well against,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “They are always exceptional in doubles and this year’s team is no different. We get to honor our senior, Kevin Lam, and we would love to send him out with a win. Post season time is upon us and is it time to begin to play our best tennis of the season.”

The Maroon & White return to action after dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 7 Mississippi State Friday evening at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The setback dropped the Aggies into third place in the SEC standings, trailing the Bulldogs (17-4, 10-1) and No. 2 Florida (19-2, 11-0). A&M has secured a top-four seed in the SEC Tournament for the sixth straight year and the Aggies have beaten or equaled their pre-season prediction by the league coaches for the seventh straight season.

A&M and Ole Miss have matched up 13 times on the tennis courts, the Aggies have won nine matchups in the series with the last victory coming in Oxford last season. The Maroon & White swept the match, 7-0, to collect their fourth win in their last five matchups against the Rebels.

A&M has won at least 20 matches in each of the last five seasons under Denton’s instruction and seven times in his 12-year tenure. Five times during the last decade, Texas A&M has hit the 25-win mark, winning 25 in 2010, 29 in 2011, 25 in 2014, 27 in 2016 and 26 in 2018.

Following the matchup against the Rebels the Aggies will head to Gainesville for the SEC Tournament and will await their opponent in the quarterfinals, A&M has advanced to the semifinals in every SEC Tournament that they have participated in.
