Keith Sitton is returning to the athletic director and head coaches office at Normangee High School after serving as an assistant football coach in Madisonville the past three seasons.

Sitton's hiring was approved Tuesday night by the Normangee Independent School District's Board of Trustees.

Prior to going to Madisonville, Sitton spent 24 years in Jewett at Leon High School as an assistant for 14 years under legendary head football coach Mike Hedrick. He replaced Hedrick in 2006 and served as the Cougars head coach until 2015 amassing a 48-55 record which included a trio of trips to the playoffs.

While in Madisonville he also served as the Mustangs head baseball coach and will oversee both football and baseball in Normangee for the time being he told KBTX Sports Tuesday.

Sitton replaces Nelson Kortis and will take his new Panther football team to Jewett in October to play his old Leon Cougar program in a District 9-2A Division I contest.
