Pinstripes take opener of Omaha Cup Championship Series, 9-4

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Pinstripes used a six-run fifth inning to topple the Maroons, 9-4, in the opening game of the Omaha Cup Championship Series on Tuesday afternoon at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The Pinstripes’ offense was led by Jonathan Ducuff, Hunter Coleman, and Ty Coleman. Ducoff went 3-for-3 on the day with one walk and three runs. Hunter Coleman batted 2-for-3, with one walk, one home run and three RBI, while Ty Coleman went 2-for-4 with one double and an RBI. The Pinstripes’ offensive out-hit the Maroons, 12-8 12 to 8.

Dustin Saenz started for the Pinstripes, working 3.1 innings. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three. Kyle Richardson earned the win in relief for the Pinstripes, fanning three in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Bryce Blaum and Mikey Hoehner each logged two hits for the Maroons. Chandler Jozwiak pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five.

SCORING SUMMARY
T2 | Hunter Townsend started the rally with a one-out double to left-center and came around to score with a two-out single by Allonte Wingate. Maroons 1, Pinstripes 0

B2 | The Pinstripes wrestled the lead away in the home half of the second. Ducoff laced a single through the left side and Hunter Coleman drove him in with a two-run dinger to leftfield. Pinstripes 2, Maroons 1.

T3 | Bryce Blaum hit a leadoff double to leftfield. He moved to third on a deep fly ball to rightfield to Hoehner. The next at-bat Zach DeLoach plated Blaum home with a groundout to short. Pinstripes 2, Maroons 2.

T4 | Townsend started another rally with a one-out walk. Pinch-hitter Hunter Watson knocked a pinch-hit single up the middle. A deep fly out by Wingate pushed both runners into scoring position. Blaum knocked in Townsend with a single to centerfield and Hoehner plated Watson with a single through the right side. Maroons 4, Pinstripes 2.

B5 | The Pinstripes exploded for six runs in the fifth. With one out, Logan Foster singled up the middle and came home to score on a wall-banger to right-center by Braden Shewmake for a double. Shewmake stole third and a walk by Ducoff put runners on corners. Hunter Coleman plated Shewmake with a single for the equalizer. A throwing error on a grounder to second by Joseph Menefee sent the go-ahead run home. The cavalcade of runs was capped off by an RBI double by Ty Coleman, a wild pitch to score Menefee and an RBI single by Mike Rodriguez. Pinstripes 8, Maroons 4.

B6 | The Pinstripe tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Ducoff singled up the middle and Hunter Coleman drew a walk. A double steal put both runners into scoring position and Ducoff scored on a passed ball. Pinstripes 9, Maroons 4.
