COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men's tennis team added a blue-chip recruit to its already talented roster when Pierce Rollins signed with the Maroon & White Wednesday. Rollins earned blue-chip status from tennisrecruiting.net and will join the Aggies in the Fall of 2019.
"Pierce is a very explosive player with a great one-two punch with his serve and forehand," Texas A&M men's tennis head coach Steve Denton said. "He will make an immediate impact in both singles and doubles for the Aggies. Coach (Kevin) O’Shea and I are very excited to welcome Pierce to our family. He is going to fit our culture perfectly and continues our 13-year tradition of signing Blue Chip Americans at Texas A&M."
One of the country's elite junior talents, Rollins earned a UTR of 13.51 and has wins over several of the world’s best junior players, including a win over the top-ranked American recruit last week at the Norman Futures tournament. Rollins trains at the RH91 Tennis Academy in Tulsa, Okla., under the direction of Trent Tucker.
"Texas A&M has great values and traditions and I have been raised to appreciate that," Rollins said. "Aggieland is a special place because of the way people treat one another, there is always mutual respect among the people in College Station. I’m excited to experience what Texas A&M is all about."
With Rollins signing with the Aggies, Texas A&M has inked 13 blue-chip recruits in the last 13 seasons, when Denton began coaching in Aggieland. Previous blue chippers that donned the Maroon & White include Austin Krajicek, Wil Spencer, Jackson Withrow, Junior Ore, Jeremy Efferding, Shane Vinsant, Harrison Adams, Jordi Arconada, AJ Catanzariti, Hady Habib, Patrick Kypson and Noah Schachter. Of those 12 blue chippers that have completed a season with the Aggies, 11 student-athletes have earned 18 All-American honors.
