BRYAN, Texas -- The Mississippi State football team is entering year two under the direction of head coach Joe Moorhead. The Bulldogs went 8-5 last year in Moorhead's debut season in Starkville. Mississippi State was 4-4 in SEC play.

The Bulldogs have seven returning starters on offense but they do have to replace starting quarterback Nick Fitzgerald. He started 37 games during his Mississippi State career. Junior Keytaon Thompson and Penn State transfer Tommy Stevens are expected to battle for the starting quarterback job.

On defense the Bulldogs have four returning starters led by junior linebacker Errolll Thompson. He is a preseason All-SEC first team selection and Mississippi State's leading returner tackler.

The Bulldogs will open the 2019 season August 31 against Louisiana in New Orleans. Mississippi State will face Texas A&M October 26 at Kyle Field.
