BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - The Ole Miss Rebels are coming off a 5-7 season and entering year three under Head Coach Matt Luke. Their two-year bowl ban has been lifted and they'll have a full scholarship count for the first time in Luke's tenure.
On offense, former West Virginia, Michigan, and Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez takes over for Phil Longo as offensive coordinator. Longo left Oxford for Chapel Hill to join Mack Brown's staff at UNC.
They'll also have holes to fill on the offensive side, losing eight starters. Redshirt freshman Matt Corral steps in at quarterback. Corral played in four games for the Rebels last season going 16 for 22 for 239 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT.
On defense, they'll be changing things up under new defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre. MacIntyre is installing a 3-4 defense. The rebels return eight starters on defense, including linebacker MoMo Sanogo. Sanogo led the Rebels with 112 tackles last season and has been named to the Butkus Award watch list.
The Rebels open the 2019 season at Memphis on August 31st. Texas A&M will head to Oxford on October 19th.
