Sam Houston State holds off Prairie View A&M in season opener

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KBTX) -- Sam Houston State won its season opener 41-32 over Prairie View A&M Saturday night at Bowers Stadium.

The Panthers gave the Bearkats all they could handle, pulling as close as 34-32 on a Jalen Morton 40-yard touchdown pass to Zarrian Holcomb with 9:04 to go.

Sam Houston answered with a nine yard Remus Bulmer touchdown run, his third of the night, with 1:02 to play to seal the victory.

The Bearkats outgained the Panthers 334-330. Mike Dare threw for 169 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in his SHSU debut.

The Panthers will host North Dakota next Saturday, while Prairie View will travel to UNLV.
