COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M softball team defeated the 2018 NJCAA D1 National Champions, Temple College, 7-3, in a 10-inning exhibition Friday night at Davis Diamond to improve to 4-0 in their fall campaign.
The Aggies struck early as Riley Sartain and Gabby Moreno recorded back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the first.
The Leopards answered back in the third with a homer from Savanna Parker to right, before a Daisy Gonzalez single scored Mackenzie Bartlett in the fourth to even the score at 2-2.
After Sarah Hudek regained the lead for Texas A&M on a homer to right in the home half of the fourth the Aggies extended the lead in the fifth, scoring four insurance runs on five hits.
Temple College fought back with a solo shot from Gonzalez, but three-straight strikeouts from Payton McBride thwarted the comeback attempt.
The Texas A&M offense outhit the Leopards, 12-5 as 10 different Aggies recorded hits in the game.
In the circle, Poynter fanned three and allowed only four hits in 5.0 innings of work to earn the win. McBride threw 5.0 innings in relief, recording seven strikeouts and only allowing one run and three baserunners.

B5 |Texas A&M put up a four-spot in the fifth as Poynter led off the inning with a single down the right field line, before Taudrea Sinnie, who pinch ran for Poynter, scored on an Elder double. Garcia followed with a double that bounced off the wall in center to score Madi Jatzlau, who pinch ran for Elder. Back-to-back singles from Walls and Fortenberry allowed Garcia to score. A Sartain sacrifice fly plated Walls to conclude scoring for the Aggies. A&M 7, TC 2

The Aggies return to action Tuesday, Nov. 6, with a doubleheader against Tarleton State at Davis Diamond. The first game is set to begin at 4 p.m. with the second following at 6 p.m. Admission to both games is free.
