The Texas A&M women’s tennis team hosts Vanderbilt Friday evening at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at 5 p.m. (CT). The Aggies (14-3, 2-2) are facing off against their second top-5 opponent in as many matches as the No. 4 Commodores (9-3, 4-0) come to town.
“We have had an excellent week of practice and preparation over the spring break week,” Texas A&M women’s tennis head coach Mark Weaver said. “It has been nice for the girls being able to focus on what we needed to improve on as a team. Vanderbilt has a very strong team once again and we are looking forward to a great opportunity on our home courts tomorrow.”
Last time out, the Aggies fell 4-0 to No. 2 Georgia Sunday afternoon in Athens, Georgia.
A&M’s Jayci Goldsmith, a freshman from Dripping Springs, Texas, earned the highest ranking for the Aggies in the March 5 edition of the Oracle/ITA Division I National Singles Rankings. The lefthander moved to No. 100 as she stands at 13-2 this spring and 22-4 overall. Goldsmith and sophomore Tatiana Makarova raced up the rankings to No. 31 in the country. The pair are 10-4 in dual matches and lead the team with two ranked wins this year.
A&M has posted an astonishing 73-16 singles record and 27-10 doubles mark in dual matches this spring. Following the match up against the Commodores, the Aggies wrap up the weekend against No. 21 Kentucky Sunday at 11 a.m. Prior to the match against the Wildcats, A&M will host kid’s court with 100 free kolaches and an appearance by Reveille.
