COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M women’s tennis elected to participate in the Tallahassee Regional of the ITA Kick-Off Week, scheduled for Jan. 24-27, 2020. Joining the Aggies at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center is host-Florida State, Miami and UCSB.
The yearly ITA Kick-Off Weekend draft allows teams to select which of the 15 host sites they travel to compete for a spot in the ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship. The 2020 Indoor Championships are set to be hosted by Illinois who automatically qualifies for the 16-team field as the host.
With the second pick in Wednesday's draft the Aggies selected the Florida State site and just three picks later, the first round matchup was set as No. 20 Miami elected to stay in state. The winner of the Miami-Texas A&M matchup takes on the winner of No. 15 Florida State and UCSB for a place in the National Indoor Championships, UCSB selected their site 39th on the day.
“We are excited about making the trip to Tallahassee early in the dual match season next year,” Texas A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. “We get to take on a very good opponent in the first round as Miami will have a very strong team and should make for a fun and challenging start to the early part of the season.”
The Aggies are participating in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend for the first time since the 2017 season, when the Aggies travelled to Coral Gables and defeated South Alabama and No. 12 Miami to advance to the National Indoor Championships in New Haven, Conn.
