COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men's tennis hosts Georgia Tech, Oregon and South Alabama for the 2020 ITA Kick Off Weekend at the Mitchell Tennis Center, January 25-26, 2020.
“While it is still a long way away, we are very excited to be hosting ITA Kick-Off Weekend here in Aggieland this coming January,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “The team really wants the opportunity to play in Madison after missing out on the Indoor Championships last season. It should be a real motivator for our team.”
The yearly ITA Kick-Off Weekend draft allows teams to select which of the 15 host sites they travel to compete for a spot in the ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championship. The 2020 Indoor Championships are set to be hosted by Wisconsin, who automatically qualifies for the 16-team field as the host, at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
The Maroon & White waited until the 29th pick before hearing that Georgia Tech elected to travel to the Brazos Valley as the regional’s 2nd-seed. The Yellow Jackets are set to be challenged by Oregon, who picked 31st in Thursday’s draft, in the first round. The regional field was set when South Alabama elected to take on A&M in the first match as the Jaguars picked 38th on the day. All four teams will play a pair of matches at the Mitchell Tennis Center, with the winners on day one facing off for a place in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
The Aggies finished the 2019 season ranked No. 15 in the ITA team rankings to earn the host spot for the sixth straight season.
