Texas A&M’s Abbrat Named SEC Freshman of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M men’s tennis’ Austin Abbrat was named SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

The Spring, Texas native earned the honor after opening the spring season with a perfect 4-0 singles record and an impressive 6-0 doubles result against Western Michigan on the top doubles court. Abbrat clinched each of the first three team matches for the Maroon & White before staving off a pair of team match points against No. 16 Virginia. Against the Cavaliers, Abbrat claimed a three-set win against Aswin Lizen, who was ranked No. 23 in the preseason rankings.

Kentucky’s Ryo Matsumura was named SEC Player of the Week.

The Aggies hit the road this weekend as they travel to Dallas to take on Texas Tech at the SMU Tennis Complex before heading to South Bend, Ind. to take on No. 13 Notre Dame.
