Texas A&M’s Kumar wins Champions for Texas Tour Event

SPRING, Texas -- Texas A&M’s Pranav Kumar won four matches in two days at the Giammalva Racquet Club over the weekend to capture the championship at the Champions for Texas Tour.

Kumar topped Siri Kongara 6-0, 6-2 in the round of 16 before ousting Mateo Galves 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the A&M freshman ousted Ryan Ybarra 6-3, 6-3 to set up a finals matchup against Aron Pierce. In the finals, Kumar picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win to earn the title.

Kumar and the Aggies will return to SEC play this week as they host Georgia Thursday at 6 p.m. followed by a Saturday doubleheader against No. 19 Tennessee and Incarnate Word.
