A pair of members from Texas A&M women’s basketball’s 2011 National Championship team, Adaora Elonu and Sydney Colson, begin runs in the 2018 WNBA Playoffs, starting Tuesday.
Colson, who was picked up by the defending champion Minnesota Lynx on August 14, is on a playoff roster for the second time in her career, after appearing in the 2011 playoffs with New York. Colson, an All-American at Texas A&M during the 2010-11 season, averaged 3.5 points and 2.0 assists off the bench for Minnesota in 2018. The Lynx open their playoff campaign with a winner-take-all First Round game at Los Angeles, set for 9:30 p.m. CT Tuesday on ESPN2.
Elonu made her WNBA debut this season with the Atlanta Dream, after playing overseas in Spain and Israel. Elonu, who averaged 11.6 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Aggies in her senior season of 2011-12, was practicing with the Nigeria National Team ahead of September’s FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup when she was signed August 10. By virtue of having one of the top two records in the WNBA this season, Atlanta receives a bye into the best-of-five WNBA Semifinals, which begin Sunday, August 26 at 2 p.m. on ESPN2.
Kelsey Bone, who was the MVP of the 2013 SEC Tournament while at Texas A&M, played in the 2018 season for the Las Vegas Aces, but missed the playoffs by a single game. Bone played in 32 games, starting 10, averaging 2.8 points and 2.2 rebounds.
