BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The Bryan Viking baseball team will honor President George H. W. Bush Monday before their game against top ranked Cy Ranch at the Viking Athletic Complex.
Bryan Head Baseball Coach James Dillard knew the Vikings needed do something to honor that the 41st United States President and his wife Barbara following their passing.
18 years ago Dillard remembers how President Bush invited then Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev to attend a high school baseball game at A&M Consolidated High School. While Dillard wasn't playing in that game, the 41st President's love of baseball, no matter the level was impactful.
"Back when he and Mr. Gorbachev came out to the Consol baseball game, I wasn't there, we had our own baseball game, just that he made the point to come to a high school baseball game meant a lot," said Bryan Head Baseball Coach James Dillard.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:30. The honoring of '41' will take place before the game.
