Driver Texting Leads to Fatal Wreck Near Buffalo

The passenger of a vehicle travelling through Leon County is dead after the driver failed to see a stalled truck because he was texting.

According to DPS, Jourdon Martin admitted he was not paying attention to the road when his truck slammed into the back of a Peterbuilt stalled on Highway 79 near the southern city limits of Buffalo just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Kerina Bundy, the lone passenger in Martin's truck, had to be taken to a Fairfield hospital, but the 20-year-old mail carrier from Tyler died an hour after the wreck. She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to DPS.

Martin, also a 20-year-old mail carrier, was taken to the same hospital, but the Chandler resident suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Peterbuilt, 40-year-old Christopher Booker of Fresno, did not suffer serious injuries. His truck was towing a Step tank, which Martin's vehicle slammed into the back of as it travelled south.
