With a few turns of dirt, the Bryan school district marked a significant new beginning in its long history. A groundbreaking ceremony took place Friday morning at the site of the new Earl Rudder High School marking the ceremonial beginning of construction of the facility.
The new campus will address several needs. None more important than relieving overcrowding. "We didn't want to have students fall through the cracks so we wanted a school where they could get more individual attention," said BISD Superintendent Mike Cargill. "This will help Bryan High School and Rudder High School."
The new school was part of a $104 million bond agreement approved in 2005. Rudder High is slated to open for the 2008-2009 school year with around 1,600 students.
