Radio broadcaster Jason Hightower passed away this week of brain cancer. You may remember him as local country music radio DJ. He was part of the duo Jason and Roy in the mornings during the 90s.
Jason had been battling the disease for at least five years. He died earlier this week in Mexico seeking treatment that's not offered here in the United States.
Jason's former Brazos Valley radio partner Roy Munse says the two kept in touch over the years. Munse says they seldom talked about the disease except to joke about it in passing. Munse says it was a different tone however when Jason first called him about it. Munse says that's when the reality hit him. "He knew that the odds were against him with brain cancer. That the statistics show that people with it weren't going to live. I don't want to say he didn't expect to live a long life, but it was going to surprise him if his life was cut short'.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in Gilmer, Texas.
