Just two days after it was rezoned for commercial use, crews cleared trees on 16 acres along Highway 6 and Rock Prairie Road.
Weingarten Realty owns the land, which had been zoned for agricultural and industrial use.
Thursday, the College Station City Council unanimously agreed on the new classification.
Weingarten originally requested the change in 2007. The city council put the decision on hold until it could complete a transportation study of the area.
As a condition of the rezoning, Weingarten agreed to build an access road to the property that would connect Rock Prairie Road and Lakeway Drive, and build a turn lane from westbound Rock Prairie Road to the new access road.
