A former firefighter has been indicted on a murder charge in the July death of his girlfriend, whose body was found floating in Lake Travis, wrapped in a tent and weighted with a paint can.
Twenty-seven-year-old Joe Carr, a former Pedernales firefighter, was indicted Thursday. He was charged in July with tampering with physical evidence. He remained in Travis County Jail Friday. Bail was set at $1 million. A sheriff's spokesman did not know his attorney information.
The Austin American-Statesman reports the body of 22-year-old Veronica Navarro was found July 6 in Lake Travis.
Officials say Carr tried to enter Canada three days after later, but was stopped when Canadian customs officials saw him acting strangely. U.S. customs officials then learned he was wanted for questioning in Navarro's death.
