MADISONVILLE - The City of Madisonville has selected a new police chief.

Madisonville City Council members voted Monday night to hire Herbert Gilbert, who graduated from Madisonville High School back in 1976.

Gilbert is returning to the community after serving nearly twenty five years in the City of South Houston Police Department. He served as police chief at the department for eleven years.

Acting Police Chief Jonathan Zitzmann will continue to fill the role until Gilbert takes over, which should be in about a month.

Chief Chuck May retired last month after serving the department for 3 and a half years.
