Prairie View Vigil Honors Alum Sandra Bland Sunday Night

Waller County Hundreds gathered at the Prairie View A&M campus for a vigil that was held Sunday for a woman who was found dead this week dead inside a Waller county jail cell.

People are gathered around the fountain at Sandra Bland's Alma-Mater remembering her and carrying on her legacy.

Sandra bland was arrested after being pulled over by a DPS trooper for a traffic violation. Days later, she took her own life in her Waller County Jail cell.

The Texas department of public safety is saying a preliminary review shows that department polices were violated during the stop.

A recent report also shows that the jail had deficiencies related to mental health training and inmate observation standards, but Waller County maintains these did not have an impact on her death.

The student body president at Prairie View says they are honoring a fallen panther.

Friends and family of Sandra came out to have their voices heard and want to know what happened the day Sandra bland passed away.

Her death is being ruled as a suicide but a thorough investigation by the Texas rangers and FBI is ongoing.

DPS says the trooper involved in the traffic stop is on desk duty as the investigation continues.
