Governor Greg Abbott signed a bipartisan law targeting catalytic converter thefts. The Deputy Darren Almendarez Act, named after the late Harris County Deputy Sheriff Darren Almendarez, strengthens penalties and allows prosecutors to treat these thefts as organized crime.
