Most area high schools have finished their football seasons. From dealing with these unprecedented times during the pandemic to playing in state championship games, it’s been a season to remember. After going through hours and hours of footage, here’s a look back at the 2020 High School Football season in the Brazos Valley.
Allen Academy won its last football state title six years ago while the Rams claimed a state championship in basketball two years ago. Elias Chapa was on that basketball squad and says that the pressure of that game and his football team-mates watching can be beneficial as the Rams prepare for Friday’s title tilt.
The A&M Consolidated Tigers (8-2) will take on Longview Pine Tree (8-1-1) once again in the first round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs. Unfortunately, because of two district losses, this season Consol will be hitting the road for their first-round playoff matchup.
The Franklin Lions got a trio of touchdowns from Seth Spiller and two from Bryson Washington including a punt return as they beat district rival Buffalo 56-33 Friday at Waco ISD Stadium to advance to the Class 3A Division II Semifinals.
College Station WR Dalton Carnes and Buffalo QB Brett Hoffman were both nominated for the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week on Monday. The award is given by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football in conjunction with the Texas Bowl.
The Bryan Viking Football team will close out the regular season Friday night at Leo Buckley Stadium in Killeen. Bryan (4-2, 5-2) enter the game against Ellison (1-5, 2-7) in a tie for second place in District 12-6A.
The Normangee Panthers beat Carlisle 27-21 in the Area Round of the Class 2A Division I playoffs Friday night at Panther Stadium to keep not only their undefeated season in tact, but also their dream of a state championship.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine and TexasFootball.com released their high school rankings after Week 12 (last week’s rankings in Class 4A and below were final). Huntsville is the only Brazos Valley team ranked (#4). A&M Consolidated dropped from the rankings for the first time this season.
