Big Barn Dance Music Festival coming to Bryan

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - A new music festival will be held in Bryan in May with dancing, live music, and local vendors.

Michael Hearne’s Big Barn Dance Music Festival will be held in Bryan for the first time this year with fun for all the family. The event will be held on May 4 and 5 at the Travis Bryan Midtown Park and will feature the talents of many country and Americana artists.

“One of the things that I always hear every year, there’s no other festival like this one,” said Mitch Miller, Event Production Manager. “And from the audience, there’s no other opportunity to hear the music as pure and as wonderful as we are able to hear it at Michael Hearn’s Barn Dance so for music lovers, this is a chance to come and really just enjoy that.”

Michael Hearne first began the Big Barn Dance Music Festival in 2003 in Taos, New Mexico. This year’s Bryan location will be the first time the music festival is held in Texas.

“Some of our attendees are from Bryan and from the region,” said Miller. “In Taos, they were coming every year and Michael was approached by one of the attendees and asked [if he would] consider putting on a Barn Dance somewhere else.”

Miller said the festival will also feature local food and craft vendors in hopes of welcoming locals to the event.

“We try to bring this culturally eclectic group together to provide a unique experience,” said Miller. “There’s nothing like it anywhere else.”

Attendees will have a chance to dust off their dancing shoes at a free morning dance lesson taught by the Aggie Wranglers. The dance lesson will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4.

“The dancing is such a crucial part of people’s lives,” said Miller. “First and foremost, bring your music-lover heart, and secondly, bring your dancing shoes.”

Miller said that they hope to continue having the music festival in Bryan in the future.

“We’re interested in keeping it here and letting it grow and develop,” said Miller.

Miller said the event will be family-friendly and children are welcome to join in the fun.
