COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Three ILTexas students ate candy they believed to be regular Halloween candy on Thursday, but the school says it was laced with THC. College Station police investigated and say this was an accident.

In a release from the school, ILTexas confirmed the three students were all sixth graders.

“One of the students, noticing that the candy tasted unusual, spit it out. However, the other two ingested the candy,” the release to parents said, adding one child went to the nurse’s office.

The nurse reportedly realized it was laced with THC and notified school officials, emergency services, and authorities.

Through College Station Police Department’s (CSPD) investigation, officers determined it was an accident that the children consumed the candy. The student who brought it and their family were unaware it was not just candy.

“The candy in this incident was unopened and looked very similar to a bag of Sour Patch Kids, and it was only upon close inspection that we realized it contained THC,” ILTexas wrote.

No criminal charges will be pressed.

However, the school system is using this as an opportunity to encourage parents to check their children’s candy this Halloween.

In another update, the school released the following statement:

“After further investigation into the situation, we wanted to clarify that an ILTexas parent was shuttling non ILTexas students from a neighboring high school back and forth to its Trunk Or Treat event last night. The parent was unaware that the item was left behind in the car. The ILTexas student picked up the candy from the backseat on the way to school thinking it was Watermelon Sours. After trying the candy the student immediately notified staff that something was not right. Please be sure to speak with your Eagle about eating candy even from a friend.”
