Bryan community rallies behind family after losing their son in a deadly car wreck

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - A Bryan family was involved in a head-on crash near Normangee last Monday which took a deadly turn. Now, the community is lifting the Beardsley family as they mourn the loss of their young son.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued a release, saying the crash happened on OSR about two miles west of Normangee at around 7:30 a.m on Monday, Mar. 3.

DPS said the driver of a GMC Sierra pickup truck heading west tried passing another vehicle on the highway and began traveling in the eastbound lanes. That’s when the pickup truck collided with the Beardsleys' Chevrolet Traverse head-on.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were rushed to St. Joseph’s in Bryan. 9-year-old Easton Beardsley, who was a passenger in the Traverse, was flown by helicopter to a hospital in The Woodlands.

Easton passed away the following day.

The Bryan Police Department (BPD) shared in a Facebook post: “In true hero fashion, Easton’s organs were donated, offering others the gift of life.”

Easton leaves behind his father, who is a BPD detective; his mother, and his older brother.

In honor of Easton’s memory and to support his family, wristbands are being sold, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to the Beardsley family.
