State trooper collides with wrong-way driver on interstate highway

DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper returning from training was involved in a crash with a driver going the wrong way on the interstate Thursday.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Sgt. Goddard of the Memphis District was returning from a training session in Nashville when he encountered the driver on Interstate 40 in Dickson County.

Dashcam footage of the crash shows the other car barreling toward Goddard in the far-left lane of the interstate. Goddard appears to swerve to the left, narrowly avoiding hitting the car head-on.

Tennessee Highway Patrol said the other driver was an “elderly man” but did not provide his age or identity.

“We are thankful it appears both Sgt. Goddard and the other driver will make a full recovery,” Tennessee Highway Patrol said in a Facebook post.
